First off, GPS simply refers to global positioning system. It functions in the sense that at any given pit or time, there are at least 24 satellites orbiting the earth. This is what forms the basis of the operation of the Sat-Nav system or better yet any other handheld unit which you may be using. It is because of this variation in distance why location might once in a while different and that signals might once fail to arrive at the exact instant they are required.

Taking into consideration the above, it is important to understand the fact that when signals get to the GPS device you are most likely to hear discrete signals since following each millisecond of delay that there is, each signal is then able to compute the position of each satellite or better yet triangulation. It is from the analysis of this data that pointing out the exact position of an item on earth can be done.

It is important to understand the fact that for GPS receivers to work they must first off get a minimum of 4 or if possible more satellites in order to be able to make sure that a coordinate can easily be pin pointed/calculated.
